| Home > Welcome > Sawley All Saints Sawley All Saints Church is one of the oldest churches in the area. It has a thriving congregation and throughout the year holds many events to raise money for the upkeep of the church. To meet their commitment to the ministry in the Diocese and to maintain their building and grounds, they had to raise £1,124 per week in 2001. The overall figure for the year 2002 will be higher. As guardians of this fine old building they want to maintain it for future generations to enjoy. They also want to continue the churches ministry in Sawley through its services and pastoral care. The church and its grounds is also one of the most picturesque, with some beautiful stained glass windows dedicated to past noted church members, stone arches either side of the nave and a 17th Century pulpit. It also has a traditional stone font for Baptisms and beautifully maintained wooden pews. The organ is set high in the side of the Chancel and is a joy to be heard. It is hard to believe looking at the picture below that just a few yards away from this serene haven, lies the extremely busy main Nottingham to Tamworth Road, and in close proximity is the M1 Motorway. Starting from the gates on Tamworth Road there is a wonderful tree lined walkway leading up to the church, which makes it a popular venue for wedding ceremonies, and photographers can take some fantastic photographs of the bride and groom and their families on their happy day. The well kept cemetery is often chosen by local people to bury their loved ones, it is also a restful place to sit and reflect. Standing in the church grounds is the Rectory, and a large grassy area in front of the church hall, which plays host to garden parties (weather permitting). The Long Eaton and District Heritage Society, The Sawley History Society, and an active Girl Guide and Brownie group also meet here. Refreshments are kindly provided by volunteers from the church parishioners in the church hall at such meetings and also for the Annual Flower Festival. During the three day Festival, local people sell their home grown produce (flowers, plants, fruit and veg, jams and preserves etc.) and second hand books, there is also a Tombola stall and raffles.
